The members of Mishpacha (Hebrew for "family") began their musical journey together in 1994, emerging from the volunteer choir at Temple Beth Or in Raleigh, N.C.  Since then, the quartet has shared its special version of liturgical music at Sabbath services, b'nai mitzvah, holidays, weddings and a wide array of community and interfaith events.  The group has released two CDs of its own and appeared on a compilation disc of southern Jewish music.  Mishpacha blends blend traditional Jewish music with progressive acoustic and classical guitar and seamless vocal harmonies to create a unique sound that is both memorable and spiritually powerful.

In 2004, vocalist and pianist Susan Reinhard joined original Mishpacha members Bonnie Nichols, Steve Katz and Roger Friedensen after Gale Touger followed her heart (and Captain Steve) to Beaufort, S.C.

Mishpacha was honored to perform for Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel during his September 2003 visit to Meredith College in Raleigh.  Wiesel joined Mishpacha to sing "Eili, Eili" that was written by Hannah Szenesh, a World War II freedom fighter who was captured and executed by the Nazis.
