Mishpacha Celebrates
Released November 2002

From strength to strength…

From life-cycle events to holidays and harvests, celebrations are integral threads in the tapestry of Jewish life.  Following the group's first CD, InSight & Visions, and its appearance on a compilation disc, Dixie Diaspora, Mishpacha Celebrates reaches beyond regular liturgy to explore a cross-section of special moments in the Jewish experience.  Like the braids of a challah, woven within these songs are the strength, the love and the traditions that have kept - and continue to keep - Judaism alive.

InSight & Visions
Released November 1999

The Music
Mishpacha’s first CD, InSight & Visions, includes many of the group’s favorite Sabbath songs. Some selections are derived from traditional Jewish liturgy, interpreted by Mishpacha for voice and guitar; others are fresh arrangements of contemporary compositions by modern Jewish musicians, including Debbie Friedman, Arik Einstein, and Julie Silver.  Performed by Mishpacha, these songs join a new path in Jewish music that lies amid folk, classical, acoustic rock, and popular music.

The Recording
To achieve the most natural sound and capture the effect of Mishpacha live, the CD was recorded  digitally in true stereo using only two Shure SM-91 microphones and a lot of love and care. There was no multi-tracking, overdubs or remixing of the performance; what you hear on this disc is what you would hear in the synagogue.
